•Our Poisson queueing game allows general service-time distributions.•Equilibrium arrival-time distributions can be calculated by a simple algorithm.•Larger variance of service times causes more arrivals in slot zero in equilibrium.•The proposed agent-based model reproduces equilibrium arrival-time distributions.
