Abstract | ||

In this study, we proposed a reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) by using optical switches (SWs) and arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs). By installing the corresponding SWs in the proposed ROADM, the network manager can add/drop the optical wavelength channels that we want manage without interfering other optical wavelength channels. Other wavelength channels that we do not handle will be passed directly to the output port. Compared to other ROADM papers published previously, the proposed RAODM not only simplifies the add/drop process, but also allows multichannel input. As an expectable result, the proposed ROADM provides more flexibility, scalability and low cost for next generation networks. |
