Message from the Technical Program Co-Chairs
Abstract
Welcome to the 2020 IEEE International Conference on VLSI Design and the International Conference on Embedded Systems (VLSID 2020)! The 2020 conference theme is "Connecting Intelligent Systems to New Age Transistors." This year we received a total of 306 initial submissions, which were reviewed by 136 Technical Programme Committee Members (from multiple countries across the world), assisted by more than 150 secondary reviewers, for a total of more than 1,100 reviews. Each paper received multiple reviews, and was discussed by program committee members, before a final acceptance decision was taken. In keeping with the theme, the conference presents keynotes and plenaries by leaders from academia and industry. Examples include the banquet keynote on Brains and Computers by Jan Rabaey (UC Berkeley and IMEC), keynotes on topics ranging from AI to nanotechnologies and quantum computing by Stefan Jockusch (Siemens), Suk Lee (TSMC), Max Shulaker (MIT), Yvain Thonnart (CEA LETI) and others, industrial plenary session speeches on AI and VLSI by Hsien-Hsin Sean Lee (Facebook), Nishant Patil (Google) and Song Yao (Xilinx), and the plenary fireside chat on VLSI in India led by Partha Pratim Chakrabarti (IIT Kharagpur). The conference also presents six outstanding tutorials on a wide range of exciting topics: Advances in Power Management for Secure IoT and Efficient Mobile Applications, Hardware Platforms for Artificial Intelligence, Invisible Computing: Embedded Systems, Open-source EDA and Machine Learning for IC Design, Resiliency and Testability: Key Drivers for Self-Driving Vehicles, and Secure Circuits and Systems. In addition, the conference program features several invited talks by renowned experts from academia and industry. To facilitate interactions between conference attendees, we have assigned a firing line to each talk – an expert who will lead a 10-minute technical discussion on the talk. We hope the conference attendees will find this unique approach to be useful. In addition, the conference program features posters by VLSI researchers.
