Abstract
•The concept of sustainable synthesis, design, and innovation of integrated chemical processes with the overall objective to achieve zero or negative waste emissions.•The formulation of a consolidated optimization framework containing energy supply sub-network, water sub-network, and processing sub-network.•The decomposition-based strategy to solve the formulated optimization problem to obtain the design of a totally integrated and sustainable process.•The evaluation of the solution quality from decomposition-based approach via the comparison with simultaneous approach.
