Title
Development of Mobile Learning Application as Scaffolds to Enhance Postgraduate-Level Statistical Literacy
Abstract
The objectives of this study are to design and develop an educational mobile application to enhance postgraduate-level statistical literacy using Instructional Scaffolding learning theory, to identify learning difficulties faced by postgraduate students in learning statistics, to determine students’ perceptions on using educational mobile application as Scaffolds in enhancing their statistical literacy, and to find out whether there is a relationship between students’ perceptions on using educational mobile application as Scaffolds and enhancement in their statistical literacy. 30 postgraduate students enrolled in statistical course participated in this study. Data were obtained quantitatively through a survey and were analysed using descriptive statistics and Spearman’s ranks correlation analysis. The findings showed that the common difficulties faced by those students is distinguishing and choosing a suitable statistical analysis, and there is a significant relationship between their perceptions on using educational applications as scaffold and their perception on enhancement in their statistical literacy after using the app as a scaffold in learning statistics.
