A Black Box Model of Academic Degree Knowledge System based Computer Network Course Construction Scheme for Postgraduates Students
Abstract
Computer network is the main component in the knowledge system of computer science which can be taught in all levels of universities. This paper presents a teaching reform plan of computer network course in postgraduate level to reconstruct the curriculum based on different training needs. First, a black box model of academic degree knowledge system is proposed. According to the modular idea of a complex system, an educational degree knowledge system can be decomposed into a series of knowledge modules and further decomposed into some black box components. Each component is similar to the Component Object Model (COM) component in which its external interface describes the functional properties of the element and the inside of the black box component is not visible to this level. For example, undergraduate students should learn the TRACERT command to track the route without knowing the detail of this command while postgraduate students shall know the internal implementation details of TRACERT. This then turns the black box of undergraduate to a white box for postgraduates whereas there is still a lot of knowledge left in the field of computer networks for graduates to learn in their future education. Then the black box model of academic degree knowledge system can be applied to the analysis and determine the computer network course at master level. Then we get our teaching reform program as follows. As an outcome, a syllabus distinguished from undergraduate includes protocol verification analysis and network performance evaluation where the teaching materials are divided into necessary articles and advance articles with the teaching and discussion. The analysis shows that this reform plan can adapt to our teaching to meet the needs of postgraduate students' follow-up work and study.
