•Two one-sided MCV charts with linearly covariate error model are proposed.•One of the proposed charts detects a decrease and the other an increase in the MCV.•The MCV charts’ performances with and without measurement errors are studied.•This work solves the erroneous conclusions of MCV charts with measurement errors.•Implementation of the MCV charts when measurement errors are present is shown. |
