Sensor Deployment for Composite Event Monitoring in Battery-Free Sensor Networks.
Abstract
Composite event monitoring, which focuses on detecting complicated events from multi-model sensory data, is an important application of heterogeneous sensor networks. Before carrying out such tasks, the deployment of heterogeneous sensors is indispensable, and is vital to the quality of event monitoring. Existing works discussing sensor deployment for composite event coverage are primarily on traditional sensor networks. Recently, a novel network architecture, namely Battery-free Sensor Networks (BF-WSNs) are proposed. Unlike the traditional ones, the BF-WSNs harvest ambient energy and have unlimited lifetime. Considering the difference in characteristics of networks, novel deploying strategies for heterogeneous BF-WSNs are eagerly demanded for better quality in composite event monitoring. In this paper, we address the problem of Sensor Deployment for Composite Event Monitoring in Battery-free Sensor Networks (BF-SDCEM). It is formalized and proved to be NP-hard. Then, the approximate solution is proposed to optimize the quality of coverage and maintain network connectivity. Simulations are carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed method under different network parameters and to show their effectiveness.
