We propose paperclickers, a low-cost classroom response system requiring a single mobile device for the teacher and cards with printed codes for the students, which results in a low-cost, easy-to-deploy solution that aims at broadening the adoption of active learning techniques in developing countries. We implemented paperclickers as a smartphone application, whose development history, with pitfalls and lessons learned, we describe in this paper. We also describe the results of the first round of usability tests we performed on the first prototype, indicating the feasibility of paperclickers, the opportunities for design improvement, and how they affected the current version of the software. A beta release of paperclickers is available for the public. |
