•A randomized dynamic window method is used to extract functional connectivity (FC).•A linear support vector machine model is used to evaluate the new dynamic FC method.•The new dynamic FC method achieved good performance in differentiating tasks.•Widespread plasticity of cognition-related network occurs in single-sided deafness.
