•We investigated the multisensory integration processes by an fMR-adaptation paradigm.•We manipulated the congruency between locomotion-related visual and somatomotor cues.•Participants used an MRI-compatible set-up for leg movements simulating a footstep.•Results revealed evidence for multisensory integration in three cortical regions.•Preference for congruent (PIC, pCi) or incongruent (hPEc) combinations was observed. |
