•A discrete-time data-driven model is produced by means of fuzzy rules emulating networks.•An output feedback controller is proposed, which relies only on input-output data information.•A discrete-time disturbance-observer is synthesised to compensate additional effects.•Experiments unveil the effectiveness of the proposed approach
