•A transfer learning regression is proposed to predict the tool tip dynamics.•Transfer learning includes the weighted adaptive and joint distribution adaptation.•The position-speed dependent time-varying dynamics in milling is considered.•The proposed method has the best prediction accuracy than the current method.
