Analyzing Perceptual Picture Quality of Various Tone-Mapping Methods for Mobile Devices
Abstract
With the advancement of sensor technologies, the available bit-depth of image data has increased. With these high dynamic range images, it is possible to distinguish fine details even in high contrast situations. However, display devices tend to have limited dynamic ranges compared to the image data. In this paper, we analyze the perceptual picture quality of various tone-mapping methods for mobile devices. We evaluated a number of global tone-mapping methods and performed subjective tests using mobile devices. We present the experimental results along with some analyses and observations.
