The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry constitutes roughly 5-9% of the overall energy consumption, and may quickly grow to as high as 20%. With the global warming challenge, the ICT sector sets its net-zero emission goal to be achieved by 2050. This paper discusses how newly proposed New IP framework and its three major components: Shipping Specification, Contract Insertion, Qualitative Communication, support green Internet and reduce energy consumption in IP routers. This paper also summarizes Future research opportunities to enhance the reduction of network power consumption based on the New IP framework. |
