Canoe VR: An Immersive Exergame to Support Cognitive and Physical Exercises of Older Adults |
Abstract | ||
---|---|---|
BSTRACTCognitive and physical exercises are important factors to support a healthy life, especially considering demographics change. Virtual reality (VR) exergames have great potential to support these activities in a more motivating way. However, regular usage of VR exergames by the older population is still limited. To address this issue, we designed and implemented a VR exergame: Canoe VR. We applied several prototyping sessions with older players and also report the results from interviews with physiotherapists. The results suggest that Canoe VR was very well received and can be used by older players as an additional fitness tool. We discuss the implications of extending a fitness routine with a VR exergame and using the game with players of different abilities. |
