High-speed Signal Transmission Using Low-resolution DAC with Jitter-aware Noise Shaping Technique |
Abstract | ||

In this paper, an improved noise shaping (NS) technique with high jitter noise tolerance is firstly proposed without additional computational complexity. The effectiveness of the jitter-aware NS (JA-NS) technique is numerically investigated in high-speed discrete multi-tone (DMT) systems with DACs in various resolutions. Simulation results indicate that for 25 GHz 64 QAM-DMT signal generated by a 6-bit DAC, the utilization of JA-NS can bring 1.7 dB received optical power (ROP) improvement at the hard-decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) threshold compared with the traditional NS technique at the time jitter of 4 % DAC sampling time, which is typical for commercially available DACs. |
