There have been significant amount of research activities towards the programmability aspects of distributed software. However not much of thought has been put in the area of post deployment monitoring of distributed software. In this paper we describe the DAMon-an infrastructure for monitoring distributed applications. The DAMon is an event-driven callback system for distributed application monitoring with user defined application monitoring semantics. It consists of a set of consistent interfaces, using which an application programmer can define domain specific aspects of the application that needs monitoring. We also propose an Object-Oriented user-space library for the DAMon: DAMI-Distributed Application Management Interface, to help parallel program developers to easily integrate DAMon into their applications. |
