Title
Opto-VLSI Systems for Multimedia Computing
Abstract
The demand dictated by multimedia computing has created a new arena for basic research, that exploits the parallelism and connectivity offered by optics together with the compactness and functionality available from VLSI, for image capture and on-line compression and coding. The merging of optical with electronic function could provide new possibilities in facilitating a hundredfold improvement in processing capability.
