Title
Production of Software Curriculum Modules
Abstract
The demand for qualified software engineers outstrips the ability of academic programs to respond. While a partial response is visible in the development of new software engineering degree programs, the small pool of faculty experienced in the area limits effectiveness. These problems can be addressed, in part, by providing curricular guidance based on the initiatives underway by professional societies such as the ACM and the IEEE Computer Society. Our proposal builds on and extends these efforts in a way that will help validate their appropriateness while providing concrete support for software engineering education. We propose to create and disseminate detailed software engineering curriculum modules for use in developing education and training programs. The project will also serve as a trial application and validation of the IEEE/ACM Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK). The WGSEET is an informal working group that was established in order to improve the state of software engineering education and training.
