Development and applications of the RFID technology are expected to induce another industrial revolution in the near future. Recently, the RFID technology has been gradually used for production control, merchandise management and logistics management. Concerning the complexity of items and distribution channels, this paper focuses on application of the RFID technology in the publication industry. The characteristics of the distribution and marketing channels of the publication industry are reviewed to explore the business operation requirements and considerations of distinct roles in the channels. Based on the features of the publication industry, a RFID application model is proposed in this study. The corresponding IT backbone as well as its integration with the global information network (i.e., the EPC network) is also revealed. Suggestions and benefits for implementation of the RFID technology in the publication industry are provided to facilitate the operation efficiency of the publication industry. |
