Title
A GPS/Wi-Fi integrated system for positioning in cooperative vehicle and infrastructure system
Abstract
Cooperative Vehicle and Infrastructure System establishes a link between vehicles, pedestrians, roads and traffic information centers, through sharing traffic information provided by wireless communications. It contains a number of services based on location. Global Positioning System (GPS) is widely used for real-time positioning and navigation by applying satellite technology. But GPS has its own drawbacks. The most common one is that GPS receiver can't get the accurate position due to multipath effect, GPS receiver internal noise and some other reasons. This paper presents a novel positioning method that Road Side Units (RSU) distribute the local map information through Wi-Fi, On Board Units (OBU) equipped with GPS receivers and Wi-Fi devices receive the map and use the map matching algorithm to locate on the map to get precise location information. The experiments validate that the proposed system can achieve higher accuracy than the raw data from GPS device. © 2012 IEEE.
