Title
An Analysis on Stochastic Broadcast Range in VANET Based on Generalized Packet Loss Model
Abstract
Vehicular Ad-hoc NETwork (VANET), organized by inter-vehicle broadcast, is one of the most important information exchange platforms in the next generation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs). Usually, researchers assumed a fixed transmission range of each communicating vehicle in their studies on VANET. However, as many empirical studies had shown stochastic V2V communication reliability, we claim that the broadcast range in VANET is also random. Therefore, we raised a new notion of Stochastic Broadcast Range (SBR) and established a model of it using generalized vehicle distribution and V2V packet loss models. Furthermore, this paper also put forward a numerical algorithm to solve SBR, which can give an accurate estimation of the broadcast fail probability and the distribution of broadcast range. All kinds of input models, no matter data-based or model-based, discrete or continuous, are applicable in our algorithm.
