•We introduce an integrated cross-dock door assignment and vehicle routing problem.•We provide mathematical formulations capable of handling small-size problems.•We introduce a three-phase matheuristic to find primal solutions quickly.•We provide tight dual bounds of the problem using column generation.•We assess the performance of the formulations, algorithms and modeling framework on a set of problems containing up to 50 customer locations. |
