According to World Urbanization Prospects published by the United Nations, globally, more people live in urban areas than in rural areas, with 54 per cent of the world’s population residing in urban areas in 2014. By 2050, 66 per cent of the world’s population is projected to be urban, compared with 30 per cent of the world’s population was urban in 1950. The development of “Smart Cities” and “Smart and Connected Communities” is becoming a major focus in the U.S. and around the world. |
