Generating an image that affords slant perception from stereo, without pictorial cues. |

•Images generated by a novel algorithm convey slant from stereo, not pictorial, cues.•Psychophysical tests confirm that image slant is not detected from non-stereo cues.•Dense, fractal-like edge content supports stereo-based depth & slant perception.•Perceivable edge content (high-freq. statistics) appears invariant to scale & tilt.•Texture gradient information is suppressed by perturbation of low frequency content. |
