Title
Accessible multimodal-interaction platform for computer-supported collaborative learning system.
Abstract
In order to facilitate learning in the context of social interactions, a number of studies have proposed computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) systems by using information and communication technologies. The basic design of a CSCL system is dependent on the target learning situation. Along with the target, the material/equipment used in the learning is different in every system. In addition, the target interaction also differs according to the learning objectives and the group formation. In collaborative learning, participants progress their learning by exchanging various verbal and nonverbal cues in the form of multimodal interactions for maintaining the relationships among them. However, very few attempts have been made at constructing an accessible multimodal-interaction CSCL system. In this paper, we propose a platform for a CSCL system that enables system developers to construct learning tools by accessing several verbal and nonverbal communication signals for different types of learning objective.
