•Different types of physiological interferences as artifacts at different intensities in terms of SNR are considered to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm.•With Q-factor equal to 2.4, the TQWT provides a wavelet that closely models the shape of S1 and S2 sounds of PCG signal.•Better performance is registered in case of coughing, hiccups and deep breathing artifacts for both normal and abnormal heart sounds. |
