•Pros and cons of addictive and subtractive manufacturing are analysed.•Polycube-based computationally light subdivision for fabrication are proposed.•The decomposition is already suitable for Addictive fabrication (3D printers).•The decomposition is analyzed in terms of 3-axis and 4-axis fabricability.
