Title
Cross-Modulation Response Underlying Sensorimotor Synchronization To Auditory And Visual Beats
Abstract
Sensorimotor synchronization (SMS) is a behavior co-ordinated with a rhythmic external stimulus. In previous studies, neural entrainment related to auditory stimuli and motor activity was observed during SMS to auditory stimuli. This study investigates the cross-modulation responses to oscillations of auditory stimuli and motor-related activity. The results suggest that a population of output neurons, which occur products of the two input oscillations caused by stimuli and motor activity, could exist. It has not been clarified, however, whether cross interaction is observable in the EEG during SMS while using visual stimuli. This paper presents the results of an analysis of electroencephalogram during SMS to visual and auditory stimuli. We observed cross-modulation responses during SMS not only to auditory stimuli, but also to visual stimuli. Our results confirm the existence of output neurons, which result as a product of two input oscillations.
