Title
Simulation and Implementation of Air-Coupled SFCW Radar on VNA
Abstract
The paper presents implementation of Stepped Frequency Continuous Wave (SFCW) Radar for landmine detection on Vector Network Analyser (VNA) instrument. Investigated was the ability to detect metal and plastic landmines without ground coupling from distances between 5 cm and up to 1 m underground. The SFCW radar was first simulated in Matlab software to confirm the working principle and obtain rough parameters for later hardware implementation. For this purpose also antennas have been developed and tested through different frequency bands from 500 MHz up to 4 GHz. The captured data from VNA has been also further processed with use of Matlab software, where an Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) image was created. Preliminary experimental results show possibility to detect small Anti Personnel (AP) landmines and promising solution for further hardware implementation with use of standard integrated components (IC) which could make the radar lightweight and cost effective.
