Title
Land Cover and Land Use Monitoring Based on Satellite Data within World Bank Project
Abstract
Remote sensing of agricultural land use and land cover is one of the essential objectives of the EBRD project "Supporting Transparent Land Governance in Ukraine". Within the project investigation on open source solutions has been conducted for obtaining results concerning actual use of agricultural land, as well as other lands, which are actually cultivated land outside the settlements. For this freely available high spatial resolution data from Sentinel-1 SAR and Sentinel-2 optical satellites have been preprocessed and used for detecting arable lands, land cover and crop type mapping in Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Lviv regions in 2018 based on different machine learning methods. In the result it was proven that Sentinel data and proposed methods could be use operationally for monitoring land cover and land use in region scale and it's foreseen that the experience of the project will be extended to the whole country in the upcoming years for achieving the goal of transparent land use.
