Magnetic field modeling and validation for a spherical actuator with cylindrical permanent magnets.
Abstract
•A permanent magnet spherical actuator (PMSA) which can generate 3-DOF rotations in one driving unit is designed.•The complex magnetic field distribution of PMSA is formulated analytically with current model by toroidal functions.•The influence of PM structure is investigated using the analytical model.•An experimental platform is designed to measure the 3D magnetic field of PMSA for validation.
