•We model customer deliveries with time windows by hybrid electric vehicles.•We develop a new heuristic solution method for this optimization problem.•We create a set of new benchmark instances for this optimization problem.•With various numerical experiments we challenge the heuristics performance.•Comparing our results with regular combustion vehicles indicate saving potential. |
