This paper describes a story-based multi-user VR environment designed to provide a comprehensive autistic experience to neurotypical individuals. The intention is improving current ASD educative tools, which can enhance social acceptance. Only a few initiatives intended portraying a wider picture of ASD and most are videos focused on sensory disorders. In this work, empathetic feelings were provoked by exposing users to a scenario where ordinary compulsions are seen through altered perception and cognition, so they can understand how it leads to unbearable overload. The multifaceted experience also allowed assuming caregivers’ point of view, showing the heavy burdens of ASD and how parents can make it worse by failing to adapt to the divergent behavior. |
