Title
Effects of the Heartbeat Expression to Remote Presence by Shaking Hands With a Remote-Controlled Robot Hand and Review of its Parameters
Abstract
This research focuses on the human robot communication, where the robot is remotely operated by human. Thus this communication is regarded as “human” and “remote human” communication through the telepresence robot. In order to increase the presence of the remote human, the robot needs to be an anthropomorphic. The purpose of this researches is to clarify what kind of impression a human has when interacting with the robot hand expressing physiological phenomena of remote human. In particular, there has been no research on anthropomorphic robots that express heartbeats. Therefore, we investigate the impression of a remotely operated robot hand that expresses heartbeat. For this purpose, this paper focuses on handshake communication. In this paper, we develop a handshake robot hand assuming handshake between remote locations. After that, we perform the impression evaluation to confirm remote presence by shaking hands with the developed robot hand. The experimental results suggest that the robot hand could improve the feeling of shaking hands with the remote operator by expressing the heartbeat. In addition, it was suggested that the personality and emotions of the remote operator could be transmitted by strength of grip and expression of heartbeat.
